Ep 188 Curtis Chin on Family, Food, and Finding Identity in a Chinese Restaurant
Tuesday Sep 02, 2025
Tuesday Sep 02, 2025
Happy Chin(n) for the Win Month! All our guests this month have the name Chin(n), and that's NOT just a gimmick; all our Chin guests are interesting, fun, and all have unique and interesting jobs!
I figured it was appropriate to start the month with none other than Curtis Chin! Curtis is the author of the award-winning memoir, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant. It chronicles about 20 years of Curtis' youth growing up in his family's restaurant in Detroit in the 70s and 80s. It is a poignant and fun read, get a copy wherever you get books. Listen to us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts!
Follow Curtis on social media @Curtischin8, or over at his website https://www.curtisfromdetroit.com/
We have a new arrangement of our theme song! Our friends from Melbourne, the amazing @invictusquartet, helped arrange and perform a new version of “Super Happy J-Pop Fun-Time” by Prismic Studios. Thanks Nyssa, Jin, Bec, and Anika!

Ep 187 The Story Behind @imadoniseats: Adonis on Culture and Cuisine
Wednesday Aug 27, 2025
Wednesday Aug 27, 2025
Adonis has popped up on my Instagram feed many times over the past 2 years. He's a local guy visiting some of Daly City and San Francisco's best mom-and-pop restaurants. His recommendations always hit, so I wanted to hear more about how he got into content creation.
I felt like it was only appropriate to break bread together as we chatted, so we popped on down to New Lun Ting in Chinatown for some roast pork and oxtails. Pardon the noise and me talking with my mouth full, but we had a great time!
Check out Adonis @imadoniseats on Instagram and YouTube. You'll find your next favorite hole-in-the-wall grub'n food joint!

If you were around pop culture in the early 2000s, you know Kaila Yu's face. She was a young import car model and pin-up girl. In her just-released book, Fetishized, Kaila pulls back the curtain on what it was like to be an Asian model in the 2000s. Her book is raw and revealing, and definitely worth a read.
We recorded this way back in April, as I think I was one of the first podcasters to jump in line to speak with Kaila. It was really fun to chat with her, and I hope you enjoy our conversation. Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Are you or someone you know curious about how to start a career in Hollywood? While working at the LA Times Ada Tseng and her co-author Jon Healey interviewed dozens of people from all parts of the entertainment industry. This book is a collection of chapters outlining most of the jobs involved with film and television production. As a TV and movie geek, I found it really interesting! Where was this book when I was a drama major in the 90s?

Ep 184 Part 1 A K-Watch Club with Isabel and Lingjie
Tuesday Aug 05, 2025
Tuesday Aug 05, 2025
We had some free time this summer, so I suckered some podcast friends to watch some shows with me. Lingjie from @worstasianpod and Isabel from @proudlyasian were game to be part of a watch club. We each recommended a show for the others to watch, and a few months later, we jumped on a Zoom call to give our thoughts!
The shows picked were: Love After Divorce Season 4 (2023), Karma (2025), and Signal (2016). We ended up recording for almost 2 hours, so I split it up into 2 episodes. Part one will have Love After Divorce. Come back again on Thursday for the part where we discuss Karma and Signal. I think we all liked the picks, so give them a watch and let us know what you think!
Thanks, of course, to my guests Isabel and Lingjie for helping me with this episode! Listen to Proudly Asian and the Worst Asian Podcast wherever you get podcasts.
I hope you're having a great summer and talk to you soon!
